Social Media Sharing

Some of you are probably wondering how social media sharing works on Twitter, Pinterest, and Facebook.

The general guidelines:

Your posts will be shared on Pinterest if it will benefit another milso/milspouse. Tips, advice, inspiration, ideas, etc.

Your posts will be shared on Twitter regardless of the content. Lifestyle, sponsored posts, reviews, thoughts, linkups, anything you post. Tweets are scheduled 10 times a day M-F.

Your posts will be shared on Facebook if there's a picture attached and it fits in a category in the albums section. If you write a particularly poignant military-related post that doesn't have an accompanying picture, it'll be posted on the page's timeline as a link.

I check the Milso Bloggers Directory feed several times a week and line up posts to be shared. If there's more than 50 posts queued, only posts that aren't shared on Pinterest and Facebook will be tweeted.

Sometimes I'll post from oldest to newest. But if there's a large queue, I'll go down the blogger line so that each blog gets at least one one post shared per week.

The only hard and fast guidelines:

Bloggers must be linked into the directory in order to have their posts shared.

I try my hardest to make sure each post gets shared on at least one social media platform.

***If you've added or changed your social media since linking into the directory, send an email with the new info so I can be sure to give credit to the correct social media account and/or blog.***

A Love Story

Brandi from sailorsprincessdiaries was kind enough to share her love story with her navy boyfriend. He's currently deployed for the first time so send her lots of love and support!

Social media:

It all started mid November of 2009 my cousin showed me a YouTube channel (dfear studios) and I fell in love with this kid named Anthony in the skit so I found his AOL screen name and messaged him I had no idea what I was in for. We talked for hours and hours I never felt like this with anyone else before. He told me about his nasty past how girls would say they are dating him but cheat and bad stuff I was heart broken. Before I knew it we were right for each other… at the time he attended community college.

We first met in person at the mall specifically in a store called Pac-Sun near Christmas time. I'll never forget I asked him to hold my smoothie cause it was so cold and he drank it I'm like oh kay? lol At this point we haven’t kissed we only hugged. And so we had our x-mas gifts be each other. Everyday for about 6 months he came over right when I was done school and stayed until the moon came out we would always webcam, text say I love you. We have been off and on every now and then. He tries as much as he can to be the best boyfriend he can be.

Now four and a half years later we are still as strong as ever! I am so ungodly proud of my boyfriend I hope soon we are more than that although it's just a label we already know we are gonna marry each other. I wouldn't ask for a better boyfriend he is all i need. I love him !

We're always accepting guest posts by Milso Bloggers about any topic. This blog runs on them. If you'd like to contribute, click here for information.

Duty Station Diaries: Fort Irwin

Today we're excited to introduce Brook from Sunflowers & Love. She's here to share her current duty station.

Hey there! My name's Brook and my husband is in the Army. I blog over at Sunflowers & Love about military life, recipes, traveling, and of course my own life with my husband. I love meeting other bloggers so head on over and introduce yourself!

Social media:

What is the name of your duty station?
Fort Irwin, Army base

Where is it located? (City/State/Country)
Smack dab in the middle of the desert! Southern California, USA

How long have you been there?
I have lived here for barely over a year now. My husband has been here for almost three though.

Any tips for incoming military members?
Try to get to know other spouses, and be kind. This base is a small one, and for some reason it tends to be harder to make friends on smaller bases. Always think positively about where you are, and it will be easier to handle. Live on base, it's not worth the crazy long drive just to live in Barstow.

Say you’re hosting an out of town guest and you only have time to take them to three places or do three things. Where do you take them?
1) The bowling alley. It's probably the place around here where you can have the most fun. Bowling is always fun, and the little kitchen they have there has some good food, too.
2) A tour. I always give a tour of the base when we have visitors. Most of our friends and family that come to visit have never been on a Military base, so it can be interesting to look around.
3) The PX. It's fun to look around or "window shop". During the summer there's a shaved ice truck outside and it's definitely worth it to get one, especially when it get's crazy hot out.

Have you checked out any local festivals or events?
My favorite event that the base has had was a Fourth of July celebration. They did the celebration on the second and was practically an all day event. During the day they had a live band, jump houses for the kids, drink and food stands, along with other stands to buy things from. Once it was dark, they had an exciting fireworks show. It was a lot of fun.

Where are your favorite places to eat/drink?
First off, don't go to the Samuel Adams restaurant, not worth it. The service is bad, and the food is sad. On a better note, we have Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, Burger King, Subway, Popeye's, Shock Wave, and two Starbucks. I like all of those places, just depends what you feel like eating at the time!

Are there any local foods/drinks/anything that you love?
The shaved ice truck I mentioned earlier is super yummy. The owner is extremely nice, as well.

What’s your favorite thing about your station/city/surrounding area?
I love that my husband gets four day weekends every month. We get to take that time to head over to Victorville and get away from base for a while. We use it as our "date day" every month and to escape the tiny base we live on.

Anything else you want to talk about?
Make the best of what you have/where you are. A lot of people don't like getting stationed here, but it helps if you have a positive outlook and do what you can to make things better for yourself and your family.
